What 𬻔 means
A rare form of 氏, the clan-name character.
The related character 氏 appears in early Chinese writing on divination bones, shells, and Western Zhou bronze vessels. In ancient China, 姓 named a wider lineage and 氏 one branch; by the Han dynasty the distinction had faded.
The digital Taishō Shinshū Daizōkyō, a Japanese Buddhist canon, preserves 𬻔 as a source form of 氏.
A source-text glyph for a clan-name character.
Replacing it with 氏 can erase the source's exact written form.
