Pigeon Character

347/7473

𭀊 is a historical Chinese character used for “pigeon.” A Ming-era book of notes cites it more generally as a word for “bird”; a Qing-era gazetteer, a book about Sichuan and its local life, identifies the pigeon with the bird called 𭀊 in an old poem. Its right-hand component, 䳆, is another bird character.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𭀊 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the CJK Unified Ideographs Extension F block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
