What 𭓬 means

It is a rare written variant of 穴. 觀音義疏 is a Buddhist commentary on the Guanyin Sutra, attributed to the Buddhist teacher Zhiyi and recorded by his disciple Guanding; there, 𭓬 carries the same meaning as 穴: a hole or cave.

The Han-era character dictionary 說文解字 glosses 穴 as “an earthen room.” Classical Chinese texts also use it for caves, animal dens, and graves; in traditional Chinese medicine, 穴 names an acupuncture point.

Why does 𭓬 show as a box?

The selected font may not contain this glyph. If 𭓬 appears as a box, the app has not found a font that can draw it. A font with the needed coverage may show the same character without changing the text.

Why does 𭓬 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the CJK Unified Ideographs Extension F block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
