What 𭷣 means
Pulling along widened to drawing someone into a matter.
An early form of 牽 appears on a lacquer box in the tomb of Marquis Yi, a ruler of the state of Zeng during China’s Warring States period. Its shape shows a hand pulling at clothing. Later forms from the Qin and Han dynasties added a pronunciation clue and reshaped the hand element into 牛 (“ox”). In Chinese, 牽涉 means “involve” or “concern.”
Use 牽 (traditional) or 牵 (simplified) in ordinary Chinese text; preserve 𭷣 when transcribing a source that uses this variant.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𭷣 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
