What 𭻅 means
Land terms follow local writing traditions. 畓 combines 水 (“water”) and 田 (“field”) to name irrigated land for rice.
In Korean land terms, 田 can mean a dry field, while 畓 names a rice paddy. A Silla stone monument from 561 CE records 畓 beside 白田 (“dry field”), distinguishing paddies from dry farmland. The Samguk Yusa, a medieval Korean chronicle, places a name containing 畓 in an event dated to 43 CE, though that early date is uncertain.
Japanese land terms use 田 for rice paddies, so the same character does not mark the Korean dry-field/paddy distinction there.
