Han character 𮂓

𮂓 is a rare Han character, from the character family used in Chinese and also found in parts of Japanese and Korean writing. Unicode’s radical-and-stroke index files it under 示, a radical—the grouping part used in character dictionaries, not a translation of the whole character. A Qing dynasty novel places it in a clothing description, but nearby text leaves the exact reading uncertain.

What 𮂓 means

The clothing context helps, but the exact reading remains uncertain. Chapter 15 of 《兒女英雄傳》, a Chinese novel from the Qing dynasty, places the glyph after a term for sleeves in a man's outfit description. The online transcription corrupts nearby words, so the passage cannot establish the exact word on its own.

Questions people ask

Why does 𮂓 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
