What 𮑋 means
This character has source-specific readings. A 13th-century Japanese Buddhist question-and-answer text, Hishō mondō, cites it in a passage about herbal remedies. Taiwan’s character-set record assigns the reading fēi to the outline 辶菲. Keep fēi attached to that source form.
Why does 𮑋 look different?
The sources record two outlines for one encoded character. Tokyo’s index to the Taishō Buddhist canon—a collection of Buddhist scriptures—records 艹 above 𨓿; Taiwan’s outline puts movement component 辶 around 菲. A 2021 standards review cites a tenth-century Buddhist glossary and a Qing-era gazetteer, a local history book, while noting the glossary’s proposed reading differs from fēi. Unicode unified the Taiwan form with 𮑋 in 2023, so fonts may show different source glyphs for the same code point.
