What 𮑾 means
It is an old written form associated with 棘, “thorn.”
The Erya (尔雅) is an early Chinese glossary. Its plant list includes 𮑾 with a commentary describing fine leaves, prickles, and climbing growth. Another botanical note connects 𮑾 with 颠棘, an old name for 天门冬 (asparagus root). The traditional Chinese plant reference Peiwen Zhai Guangqunfangpu (佩文斋广群芳谱) records 𮑾苑 as a name for 远志, a different medicinal plant. The surrounding term tells you which plant is meant.
Historical and botanical; surrounding words decide which plant name is meant.
Do not assign it one herb name without the surrounding term.
