What 𮒱 means
To preserve a character the digital edition could not represent.
The University of Tokyo’s SAT digital-text project digitized the Taishō Tripiṭaka. Before 2017, its texts sometimes used component combinations or blank boxes for characters without their own digital code. Unicode—the shared system that assigns characters text codes—added 2,800 such forms in 2017.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𮒱 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
