What 𮓠 means
A wide hill suggested open space and emptiness.
The earliest known forms of 虛 appear in Warring States Chu and Qin manuscripts (c. 475–221 BCE). The early Chinese character dictionary Shuowen Jiezi defines it as “large hill”: 丘 (“hill”) gives the meaning, while 虍 supplies sound. The open-space sense broadened to “empty,” “hollow,” then figurative “false.” 墟 later kept the hill or place sense and came to mean “ruins.”

Questions people ask
1Why does 𮓠 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
