What 𮔳 means
A venomous sting or the act of stinging.
A Tang dynasty collection of anecdotes uses 𮔳 to describe a green snake said to be free of stinging venom. A Ming dynasty essay turns the image into a metaphor for harm inflicted on a country.
Why was 𮔳 included in digital texts?
To preserve its exact form in a Buddhist text collection.
The SAT project proposed and encoded rare characters for digital transcription of the Taishō Buddhist canon, including this graph. The canon is a Japanese edition of Buddhist scriptures in Chinese. Its Unicode 10.0 character list says the rare forms use a web font and warns that browsers without the needed support may not display them.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𮔳 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
