What 𮚋 means
贊 appears in a dictionary from around 100 CE. The Shuowen Jiezi is an early Chinese character dictionary; it glosses 贊 as “to appear before.”
One traditional explanation reads 贊 as 貝, the shell component associated with wealth, plus a part linked with advancing; it connects the character with presenting valuables at an audience with a ruler. In later classical writing, 贊 also means helping, guiding, recommending, agreeing, and praising. Japanese character records catalogue 𮚋 as a distinct variant of 贊.
For ordinary Japanese prose, 賛 is the familiar form; 𮚋 is a rare recorded variant of 贊.

1Why does 𮚋 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
