What 𮧞 means
It is read こて (kote), a word for arm protection.
A Japanese historical dictionary cites kote with armor in an 815 record and in the Shinsen Jikyō, an early Japanese dictionary (c. 898–901), for a leather guard on an archer’s left arm. It kept the bowstring from striking the arm. In kendo, kote also means the hand-and-forearm protector and a strike scored against it.
What does 𮧞 mean in a Chinese funeral text?
There, it names a cloth cover on a funeral carriage.
A gloss on the Liji (“Book of Rites”) quotes 𮧞 in a passage about a cloth-covered funeral carriage. One commentary connects it with 榇 (“coffin”); another links it to 蒨, a red dye, and reads it like 蒨.
Its reading depends on the language and text.
Don't assume every occurrence means Japanese kote; Chinese funeral notes use it differently.
