What 𮪝 means
Press CtrlShiftU, enter 2EA9D, then press Enter.
The GNOME and GTK method accepts this five-digit hexadecimal value. Entering the character does not guarantee that your font contains a glyph to display it.
What is 𮪝 used for?
It is an exact character preserved in Buddhist scripture transcription.
The University of Tokyo's SAT project began in 1994 to digitize the Taishō Shinshū Daizōkyō, a printed collection of Buddhist scriptures. Its Unicode list includes 𮪝 among the forms submitted for that text.
Early in the project, when word processors could not enter uncommon characters from the books, researchers used temporary stand-ins. The SAT project proposed more than 2,800 such characters, which Unicode encoded in 2017. That date marks their computer encoding, not their first appearance in writing.
Why does 𮪝 show as a box?
The selected font may not include this rare glyph.
The SAT Unicode list warns in 2026 that browsers without its webfont may not display these rare characters. If the font draws a blank or box, the text can still contain the correct character.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𮪝 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
