What 𮭟 means
Both associations appear in different contexts.
Some Chinese character references list 𮭟 as a variant of 鳳. The early form of 鳳 drew a bird with crest and tail feathers; later writing added 凡 as a clue to the character’s sound.
A Song-dynasty natural-history book records that people in Jiangdong (eastern China) called a small duck 𮭟. In an old passage, identify the bird being discussed before settling on the phoenix reading.
