Rare Chinese character for a large drum

𮮧 is a rare Chinese character recorded in a Korean Hanja dictionary (a dictionary of Chinese characters used in Korean) as a form of 鼛, an old name for a large drum. Classical Chinese texts use 鼛鼓 for labor calls.

What 𮮧 means

It marked the start and stop of work duties. The Zhouli, a classical Chinese manual of ritual and government, assigns 鼛鼓 to labor service; its commentary explains that the calls signaled when work began and stopped. A poem in the Book of Odes, a classical Chinese poetry collection, writes 鼛 in a scene of workers building walls.

Why does 𮮧 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
