Han character 𮮭

𮮭 appears in the historical Chinese name 竹𮮭 for a bamboo rat, recorded in an 1882 commentary. Its author says the label may have been local, so it does not settle what the Tang poet Du Fu meant by 稚子 (“young one”) in a poem.

What 𮮭 means

Only as part of a historical name. In an 1882 Chinese commentary, Li Lianxiu writes 竹𮮭 for the bamboo rat; 竹 means “bamboo.” He says the label may have been local, so it cannot prove that 稚子 (“young one”) in a poem by the Tang poet Du Fu meant an animal rather than bamboo shoots.

Why does 𮮭 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
