What 𮯚 means

A Korean gloss records an error form. Hanja are Chinese characters used in Korean. 龕 is read gam (감) in Korean and means a recess or cabinet for a sacred image or ancestor tablet. Use 龎 for the ordinary character; keep 𮯚 only when transcribing the source.

The Eastern Han dictionary Shuowen Jiezi explains 龕 as “dragon’s appearance,” with 龍 for meaning and 合 for sound. Qing scholar Duan Yucai instead gives 今 as the sound part; a 2024 Taiwan Ministry of Education dictionary lists 𪚕 as a variant of 龕. The 1716 Kangxi Dictionary records 龕 borrowed for 戡, “subdue or pacify”; its familiar sense is a shrine niche.

Why does 𮯚 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
