Han character wàn

𮲚 is the simplified form of rare Chinese character 𲥂, read wàn in Mandarin. It comes from China's supplementary character set for public-security population records, designed to cover uncommon personal and place names.

What 𮲚 means

The standards trail begins with the 2023 GIDC23-171 source entry in China's Ministry of Public Security character ID system. It places 𮲚 in a supplementary population-information font.

A 2023 proposal says the set answered a need: rare personal and place names had to work in citizen identification and public services. China added the set to GB 18030; Unicode encoded it for exchange across systems.

If it appears as a box, the current font lacks a glyph for this character. Extension I entered Unicode in 2023, so older fonts may not display it; the text itself remains 𮲚.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𮲚 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
