What 𮲢 means

A Qing dynasty catalogue preserves it in a hall name. The note reads “壬申六月,赵晋记于𮲢葩馆”: Zhao Jin wrote at 𮲢葩馆. The last character, 馆, means a hall or study, so 𮲢 is part of that place name.

The code chart gives its source as GIDC23-179, identifying China’s Ministry of Public Security ID system in 2023. Unicode’s CJK Extension I block drew on characters in 2022–23 drafts of GB 18030, China’s national standard for coded text; the group was treated as urgently needed for use in China.

Why does 𮲢 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
