cjk unified ideograph-2ecdd

Chinese ideograph 2ECDD

238/622

𮳝 is a rare Chinese ideograph used to preserve exact personal and place names in official population records. Its 2023 Unicode encoding drew on China's public-security character set to help systems exchange those uncommon names accurately.

What 𮳝 means

It lets systems exchange rare names exactly.

The source set came from a specialized character font used in China's public-security population-information system.

It included forms not yet encoded by national or international standards through 2022; the 2023 GB 18030 amendment draft aimed to make rare personal and place names from those records exchangeable between systems.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𮳝 show as a box on some devices?

It is recent: Unicode added it in version 15.1 (2023), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
