Rare Chinese Character

408/622

𮶇 is a rare Chinese character from the special font used by China’s Ministry of Public Security for resident identity-card registration. Unicode, the shared standard computers use to store text, gave it a permanent code point so records can preserve this exact written form across systems; the code point alone does not tell you how someone pronounces a name containing it.

What 𮶇 means

It preserves a character from China’s resident-ID registration font.

China’s Ministry of Public Security used a special font for registering resident identity cards. The Unicode chart labels 𮶇 GIDC23-408, placing it in that source set.

Some characters in the font had only private-use code positions—slots different systems could assign differently. In 2023, Unicode gave the reviewed set permanent code points to help systems exchange those exact forms more reliably.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𮶇 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
