What means
Type 2EDCA in Word for Windows, then press AltX. The older form 譒 is read bò in Mandarin pinyin and bo3 in Cantonese Jyutping, a way to spell Cantonese sounds with Latin letters. Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese character dictionary, glosses 譒 as “spread”; Yupian, another Chinese character dictionary, also records “song or rumor.” The left component 讠 is the simplified form of 言 (“speech”); 番 stays unchanged.
This glyph is in China's Public Security Population Information Special Font, used for resident identity-card registration. In 2023, a GB 18030 amendment encoded rare personal and place-name characters from this set so records could move between systems without relying on codes that worked only inside one system.
Specialized and record-focused; expect it in exact names, not casual chat.
In a personal or place name, preserve this exact glyph.
