What means
It names decoration made in metal. 錺 also names the ornamental fittings used on Japanese buildings and objects. Over time, they developed from practical hardware—nails, hinges, and protective covers—into decorative metalwork. Such fittings decorated Japanese buildings as early as Hōryū-ji’s Kondō, the main hall of a Buddhist temple and the country’s oldest surviving building. Their use was most elaborate from the Momoyama period through the early Edo period, when they also adorned residences.
