Han Character 𮸓

548/622

𮸓 is a rare Chinese name character associated with personal and place names in public-security records. Its role is practical: preserving the exact written form as information moves between systems.

What 𮸓 means

It comes from an extra character set for official records. The source entry places 𮸓 in China’s public-security population-information font, a special digital font for those records.

China’s GB 18030 standard—the national rules for encoding and exchanging Chinese text—was updated to address rare personal and place names that were hard to move between information systems. The Unicode proposal drew on a draft update in 2023; China published the amendment in 2024 and gave its new characters an implementation transition.

Why does this character show as a box?

The font or app may not have its glyph. In ordinary text display, a missing drawing can appear as a square, question-mark box, or blank even when the text still contains 𮸓. A compatible font can display its form.

1

Why does 𮸓 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
