Han character 𰔩

𰔩 is a rare Han character with two documented dictionary trails: one Chinese source associates it with 摁, “press down by hand,” while a historical variant record links it to 檣, a ship’s mast. Use the surrounding text or source to tell which reading applies.

What 𰔩 means

Its reading depends on its source. One dictionary trail connects 𰔩 to 摁, the Chinese verb “press down by hand”; a historical record also lists this hand-radical form as a nonstandard variant of 檣, the character for a ship’s mast.

Is 𰔩 a variant of 檣?

A historical character dictionary records it as a variant of 檣. Longkan Shoujian (龍龕手鑑) was compiled in 997 by Xingjun, a monk of the medieval Liao dynasty. It helped readers understand Buddhist texts and the different written forms found in them.

Why does 𰔩 show as a box?

Your font may not contain a drawing for it. As of 2026, some browser font previews still lack this uncommon glyph; a blank box is a display issue, not a different character.
