Historical variant of 浙

1772/4939

𰛫 is a historical written variant of 浙, the Chinese character used as an abbreviation for Zhejiang province. The character dictionary Shuowen Jiezi, from the Han dynasty, identifies 浙 as the name of the Zhejiang River; later, 浙 also became shorthand for the province. A Sui dynasty tomb inscription for Su Xiaoci preserves this variant.

What 𰛫 means

Its right-hand strokes follow an older writing pattern.

In older variant writing, the 斤 part on 浙’s right could take a 片-like shape; 斤 is the axe component. The shape changes, but read this form as 浙; its meaning stays the same.

1

Why does 𰛫 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
