Old form of 淀

𰛸 is an old written variant of 淀, the Chinese character for a shallow lake or pool. A Buddhist reference book records it, and a later Japanese poem uses it in a river name.

What 𰛸 means

It is a nonstandard form of 淀. The 997 Longkan Shoujian (龍龕手鑑), a character dictionary compiled by Liao monk Xingjun, explains written forms and readings in Buddhist scriptures.

A Japanese poetry collection printed in 1758–61 uses it in a river name. This is a later place-name use, not a new everyday meaning.

Why does 𰛸 show as a box?
