𰞔

cjk unified ideograph-30794

Han character 𰞔

𰞔 is a historical variant of 昭, the Chinese character for “bright” or “clear.” It appears in the Qiao Min stone inscription from 187 CE: handwriting changed 昭’s 日 (“sun”) to 火 (“fire”) and shaped 召 like 名 because their forms resemble each other. In family temples for honoring ancestors, 昭 also named the left-side generations in a lineage, paired with 穆 on the right.
