What 𰢸 means
A rare form of 畎, Mandarin quǎn: a field ditch.
An early surviving reference appears in the Book of Documents, an ancient Chinese classic: its water-control account routes small field channels into larger waterways.
畎亩 (“ditch and raised strip”) came to mean farmland. The Mencius, a philosophical classic, says Shun, a legendary ruler, rose from 畎亩; the phrase gives his story a humble rural beginning.
