What 𰫘 means
To write Zhuang words in a locally developed block script.
Sawndip writers combined Han-character components with their sounds and meanings; the script varied by community rather than following one standard. A 12th-century account by Chinese writer Fan Chengda describes local writing in legal cases and contracts around Guilin. Collected examples also include ritual books, folk songs, stories, family records, letters, and inscriptions.
What else can muengx mean?
It can also mean “spiderweb” or “cobweb.”
The Standard Zhuang spelling uses the Latin alphabet; local block spellings varied. In a 2015 interview, Zhuang linguist Wei Shuguan described using muengx for “network” in a local newspaper website’s name, extending the fishing-net sense to digital connections.
