Han character 𰬿

𰬿 is a simplified form of 纀, a classical Chinese clothing word for the shaped lower part of an ancient robe. In a historical text, it names that garment piece, not the robe as a whole.

What 𰬿 means

It is a written form of 纀, an old clothing term.

Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese character dictionary, and Erya, an early reference work, describe 纀 as the lower skirt shaped by cutting the cloth narrower. Guo Pu’s note identifies it as the lower part of a deep robe, a long garment ancient nobles and officials wore at home.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𰬿 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
