cjk unified ideograph-30cbd

Han character 𰲽

𰲽 was proposed as a shortened form of 蠓 (pronounced měng in Mandarin), the character for a tiny biting midge. It belongs to the PRC's second-round character-simplification plan, published on 20 December 1977 to ease literacy teaching; the State Council withdrew the plan on 24 June 1986. The older character 蠓 appears in the Han-era dictionary Shuowen Jiezi; the reform did not replace it in standard Chinese.
