What 𰳂 means
It is a variant form of 螹.
The Western Han poem Shanglin fu lists an aquatic creature as 漸離; other transmitted versions write the name 螹離. The Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese character dictionary completed around 100 CE, glosses 螹 as 螹離.
The terms 螹離 and 螹胡 name different creatures: 螹離 is an aquatic animal, while 螹胡 is an ape-like beast. The second character changes which old name you are reading.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𰳂 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
