What 𰻱 means
邶 named a state in land once ruled by the Shang, an earlier Chinese dynasty. A Western Han copy of the Book of Songs, an early Chinese poetry anthology, writes the name with 北 (“north”); Han-era scribes added 邑, a place marker, to distinguish the state name.
𰻱 is linked to 鄁, an alternate writing of 邶. A third-century commentary by Wei Zhao gives a Book of Songs section title as 鄁风; Tang-era official editions preferred 邶, though later dictionaries retain 鄁 as an alternate.
