Simplified form of 餢

𱃾 is the simplified variant of 餢 (Mandarin bù); 餢 appears in an old name for a round, risen flour cake. The tenth-century Chinese encyclopedia Taiping Yulan quotes Shu Xi’s third-century poem naming 餢飳; the sixth-century farming manual Qimin Yaoshu gives a recipe for 餢𩜶, another spelling. Old accounts disagree on whether the cake was steamed or fried; 餺飥 is a separate flour dish.

What 𱃾 means

Japanese and Vietnamese records give 餢 different readings.

Japanese character indexes list 餢 with the readings hō and bu. A Vietnamese Hán-Nôm dictionary (for Vietnamese writing with Chinese characters) gives 餢 the reading bẫu, glossed as “fermented cake.”

Why does 𱃾 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
