What 𱄮 means
Unicode links it with 驪 (lí), “a deep-black horse.” The Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese dictionary compiled during the Eastern Han period, gives that gloss.
The Book of Odes, an early Chinese poetry collection, includes “有驪有黃” (“black horses and yellow horses”). In later Chinese usage, those coat and sex labels became the idiom 牝牡驪黃 (“female or male, black or yellow”), a reminder to judge a horse or person by ability rather than appearance.
