What 𱈘 means
It names a fish in Chinese. 鱨 appears in the Classic of Poetry, an early Chinese poem collection whose poems are customarily dated 1000–600 BCE. Shuowen Jiezi, an early character dictionary, analyzes 鱨 as 魚, the fish component, plus 嘗, which hints at its sound. Older glosses describe a yellow-cheeked fish; modern sources also use the name for related catfish.
𱈘 is a partial simplification: it uses the fish component 鱼 but keeps 嘗. Standard simplified Chinese writes 鲿, changing the sound component to 尝. This exact form is documented in Hanyu Da Zidian, a Chinese character dictionary published 1986–1990.

1Why does 𱈘 show as a box on some devices?
