What 𱒏 means
On GNOME/GTK, use Unicode hex input.
As of 2026, on GNOME or another GTK desktop, press Ctrl+Shift+U, type 3148F, then press Enter or Space. Some Windows apps, including Word and Outlook, convert 3148F after Alt+X. The built-in macOS Unicode Hex Input accepts at most four hexadecimal digits, so it cannot enter this five-digit value.
Where does 𱒏 come from?
Its Korean source points to a royal archive.
The character’s source citation points to the National Museum of Korea’s Outer Kyujanggak Uigwe collection. Outer Kyujanggak was a royal repository on Ganghwa Island. Uigwe are illustrated books that set out Joseon royal ceremonies and state rites, including their procedures and required items; the court kept them as models for future state governance.
In the 2019 review, the Korean delegation described the form as 巨 above ㅁ: 巨 is a Han character, and ㅁ is the Korean alphabet’s letter mieum. The reviewers accepted it as one character, not two adjacent ideographs. The review cites 巪, which pairs 巨 with Hangul ㄱ; this is a graphic link, not proof that the two share a reading.

1Why does 𱒏 show as a box?
A missing font glyph. In Chromium on Windows, CJK Extension H characters use SimSun-ExtG as their Plane 3 fallback (as of 2026). That suggests a box points to font coverage or fallback availability; the text can still contain the intended character.
