What 㗫 means
It describes a whisper or quiet speech.
The 玉篇, an early Chinese dictionary, glosses 㗫 as “small speech”; 說文, another early dictionary, does not include 㗫. Later lexicons connect it with 𧫕 and 詧; one also gives a sense of speaking directly.
A Tang poem uses 㗫㗫 in 鏡聽 (“mirror listening”), a divination rite where someone listens for an omen about an absent husband's return; the repeated form conveys murmuring. This is a literary use, not an origin story.
Literary and historical.
As of 2026, 㗫㗫 is not established as everyday chat shorthand.

Questions people ask
1Why does 㗫 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
