What 㙮 means
㙮 is a written variant of 塔, meaning “pagoda.”
Chinese Buddhist texts used 塔 for the Indian stupa, a shrine for relics or scriptures; other names include 佛圖, 浮屠, and 窣堵波. A translation dated 147 CE uses 塔; Ge Hong’s dictionary 字苑, from the fourth century, records it too.
塔 later meant tall buildings and, in some Chinese terms, a tart pastry; this does not establish routine 㙮 use. As of 2026, dictionaries record dialectal 㙮 for “place” and in 圪㙮, a form of 疙瘩 (“lump”).
Reference-like: 㙮 preserves an exact variant or a source spelling.

1Why does 㙮 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Unified Ideographs Extension A block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
