What 㯌 means
“Manage or operate” is the safest gloss, but the phrase remains disputed. The earliest cited example is in the poem 王孫賦 by the Eastern Han poet Wang Yanshou; the Eastern Han was an ancient Chinese dynasty. The passage describes a monkey moving among steep rocks, while dictionaries gloss 樄㯌 as something like managing or rushing about.
The same passage also appears with alternate writings such as 樄椽 and 陳椽. Reference works connect 㯌 with 椽 in this old textual tradition, so its meaning depends on the version and context rather than one settled everyday sense.
How do I type 㯌?
In Microsoft Word, type 3BCC and press AltX. As checked on 2026-09-09, Word converts that hexadecimal code to 㯌; in a GNOME text field, press CtrlShiftU, type 3bcc, then Enter.
If your usual input method does not offer it, use either code route. A font must also include the character, so successful entry and display are separate.
㯌 vs 椽: which one is right?
Use 椽 for a roof rafter; keep 㯌 in the historical phrase. Reference works record a historical link between the two, but that does not make them interchangeable in ordinary writing. In Mandarin, both are read chuán, roughly “chwan” with a rising tone.
In ordinary modern prose, 㯌 has a deliberate classical or dictionary-reference feel.
Do not use it as a free-standing modern synonym for “manage”; its old context is disputed.
