What 㵊 means
It describes a moving shadow or image, and moving water. If it arrives alone, treat it as a rare literal character or ask what text the sender is quoting.
The character includes a water component that fits the water sense; dictionaries also preserve the shadow and image sense.
How did 㵊 change across traditions?
The record traces motion senses across Chinese and Vietnamese writing. The earliest known written record of 㵊, as of 2026, is a c. 543 entry in the Yupian, a Chinese character dictionary. It glosses 㵊 as 影動 (“shadow moving”) and gives a fanqie pronunciation note, an old method for indicating a character’s sound. The later Kangxi dictionary repeats that gloss and adds 水動貌 (“the appearance of moving water”).
Later Chinese records keep it near water: a local record applies it to spring water, and a Yuan-era passage attributed to Yuan Haowen uses it for canal water moving forward. A Tự Đức-era Vietnamese Nôm dictionary (Nôm is a traditional way of writing Vietnamese) uses 㵊 for suối (“stream”) and lists it as equivalent to 𣷮. That documents a Vietnamese writing connection; it does not establish that the two characters share all meanings.
A rare literary or dictionary character in Chinese records, with a documented Vietnamese Nôm use.
Alone in chat, it may look like a typo or test string.
