What 㶲 means
It names the useful work an energy source can still yield.
Engineers use 㶲 in thermodynamics and energy analysis to distinguish recoverable work from the total energy present. Exergy depends on the source and its surroundings; energy quantity alone does not say how much useful work remains.
One account places its coinage in 1957, when engineers at Nanjing Institute of Technology translated “exergy” after a visiting lecture. The idea draws on older maximum-work and available-energy analyses; the English term “exergy” was coined in 1956. These are conceptual predecessors, not earlier names for 㶲. In its 2024 entry, Taiwan’s Ministry of Education notes that 㶲 does not appear in 《說文》, an early Chinese character dictionary.
Is 㶲 an emoji?
No; it is a Han character rendered by a text font.
Its appearance depends on whether the reader’s font contains the character. Taiwan’s CNS record says Windows 10 and later include it in default system fonts, as of 2024; on other systems, it can appear as a box when no installed font contains it.
Specialist and neutral in engineering; alone in casual chat, it needs context.
Read the whole character as exergy; 火 is one component, not a flame cue.

3 readingsA technical symbol for exergy, or useful work available from a system.
Don't confuse it with
1火用 Technical papers in 1993 and 2009 printed 火用 for the same exergy term. It is a two-character spelling, not a single Unicode character.

1Why does 㶲 show as a box?
