What 㺲 means

An old form of 鈕 for a seal’s raised handle.

The Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese dictionary, records 㺲 as 鈕 written with the jade component. It links that form to early jade seals. A form also appears in manuscripts from Chu, an ancient Chinese state.

鈕/钮 also means buttons, handles, and controls. Seal knobs began as grips for carrying and pressing seals; during the Qin and Han dynasties, their carved shapes could signal rank.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 㺲 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the CJK Unified Ideographs Extension A block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
