What 㼋 means
It has two Mandarin readings for different foods.
Dictionaries link the melon reading to 王瓜, a Chinese plant name, and record 菇 as an alternative writing. As of 2026, 㼋 is absent from 說文, an early Chinese character dictionary. Its earliest dictionary record is in 玉篇, a character dictionary compiled in 543; later rhyme dictionaries preserve the readings.
