What 䀺 means
An eye that does not sit straight.
A dictionary character by design: 目 gives the eye meaning, 攸 the sound. The earliest clear record is the Shuowen Jiezi, a Han-dynasty dictionary of character analysis, presented in 121 CE.
Later dictionaries split it: chōu keeps the askew eye, tāo adds unclear sight and the double eyelid.
Strictly lexicographic; a reference character, not a reaction.
Alone, the reading stays open: chōu or tāo?

Questions people ask
1Why does 䀺 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
