What 䆺 means
It is a recorded variant of 潘.
The early Chinese dictionary 《说文解字》 records 潘 as rice-rinsing water used to wash hair and as the name of a body of water near Yingyang. Later texts use it for eddies; “止水之潘为渊” describes a still-water eddy becoming a deep pool.
As of 2026, oracle-bone inscriptions (writing carved on bones and shells) do not attest 潘. Bronze forms retain 番, the part that signals its sound; early manuscripts use 潘 for rice water. Is 䆺 the same as 潘? It is a recorded variant; 潘 is the usual modern form.
