What 䗺 means
䗺 has a motion reading and a historical-name reading.
In the two-character Chinese word 䖤䗺, 䗺 describes a snake-like, winding crawl. In its other reading, 䗺 is an alternate written form of 蜑. The 蜑 label first appears in Chinese texts in the fourth century for people outside the Han Chinese group. During the Song period it referred more specifically to southern water-dwelling communities; late imperial writing also used it to mark a household and its social status.
Shuowen, an early Chinese character dictionary, does not include this exact form. Its earliest known dictionary entry is in Jiyun, another Chinese dictionary compiled in 1037; that dates a recorded form, not the character's creation.
Its documented readings belong to descriptive and historical contexts.
A Macau account from 1987 records stigma around this historical label; don't use it as a playful name for people.
