䝏 (lóu) names a sow — especially one seeking offspring — in one dictionary tradition, and a pig-like burrowing animal in another. It is historical Chinese vocabulary, not an emoji with a social meaning of its own; inside the old phrase 婁豬 it becomes a pointed sexual taunt.

What 䝏 means

A sow in one tradition, a pig-like burrower in another.

The earliest named source is the Yupian, a Chinese character dictionary compiled in 543. The Longkan Shoujian, finished in 997, keeps the burrowing-animal gloss, and the Ministry of Education's 2024 entry notes 䝏 is absent from the older Shuowen — the first great character dictionary.

The entries do not settle on one animal: some give a sow seeking offspring, others a heavy burrower rendered 'pig badger'. Translate from the surrounding text — the glyph alone will not pick the English noun.

When does 䝏 become a sexual taunt?

Only inside the old phrase 婁豬.

In the Zuo Zhuan, an ancient Chinese chronicle, a crowd sings 婁豬 — 'the sow that keeps seeking a mate' — to shame Lady Nan Zi of Wei; a boar in the song stands for her lover Song Chao. It is a famous piece of ancient rudeness, not a live modern insult.

How do I type 䝏?

Type lóu in an input method that exposes rare Han characters.

A pinyin IME with extended-character support offers it under lóu; Cangjie references list the sequence MOLLV. Otherwise an OS character map or the escaped code \u474F does the job.

Showing as a hollow box means the font lacks the glyph — the underlying text is still right. Switch to a font with fuller Han coverage rather than swapping in a common pig character.

Dictionary-level and scholarly; in casual chat it earns a lookup, not a tone.

The old phrase 婁豬 carries sexual innuendo — never send 䝏 as a neutral cute-pig stand-in.

Why does 䝏 show as a box?

Your font lacks it. The stored text is still correct — use a font with wider Han coverage and keep the original character.

What does 婁豬 mean?

An old sexual taunt — 'the sow that keeps seeking a mate' — sung at Lady Nan Zi; the sow-word, written 婁 there, is the same animal word 䝏 records.
